Arrangements and session work for “Our Love Is Here to Stay”

In Spring 2011, I had the honor of assisting my mother, vocalist Diana Peterson, with some arrangements for her upcoming CD of ballads, “Our Love Is Here to Stay”.  The album was recorded at Bias Studios in Springfield, VA, with a fantastic group of notable jazzists (among them the great Bruce Swaim) and friends.  I also played in the session.

Was I nervous about arranging Lennon and McCartney for session musicians who included Tony Bennett’s bassist?  A little — but the songs were relatively simple, I have some good tools (Finale for the charts and correct clefs for the wind instruments, Nuendo 4 for the rough sketch and preview — EastWest reminded me of sax and oboe ranges, etc.), and the musicians themselves were consummate professionals.  Such a great experience!
