(C) Paramount Pictures willy wonka pure imagination

Arrangement: Pure Imagination

I finally finished that arrangement of one of my favorite songs, “Pure Imagination”, written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley for the 1971 Paramount film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

In the final touches I made tonight, I even discovered some intuitive and fun allusions to another classic “musical” (if you’ve seen Saving Mr. Banks, you’ll understand the quotes) and to one of my idols and inspirations for this style, Bill Evans.  (Can you hear them?)  Less sinister than the markedly original Fiona Apple & Chipotle version.

Feedback welcomed — hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed discovering.

  1. I love it .Laura. There is plenty of richness there in the voicings and the transition to the stride feel sounds very natural with a touch of Monk that took me by surprise. Very nice!

  2. I haven’t seen “Mr Banks” yet but I sure hear Bill Evans! Beautiful touch, beautiful everything. I love it.
