As someone blessed with perfect pitch and the ability to keenly hear *everything* in a recording, it’s a great source of frustration to be able to also keenly hear everything in a performance or arrangement by Bill Evans and other jazz greats but to only slowly and painstakingly reproduce even a small approximation of their skilled talent and complicated voicings thanks to my hacker ears and my modicum of jazz training.
